Where can I find information about a local city tax for New York City residents?

I’ve heard that people who live in New York City are required to pay an extra tax in addition to state and federal taxes. I’m not sure if this is only for those who:

* directly own NYC property (co-ops, condos, houses, etc.)
* anybody who normally resides in NYC (apartment)
* or anybody who works within NYC

Any information would be great. Thanks.

Are there any cheap apartments in Queens, New York that are affordable ?

  1. tma says:

The "local" or city tax is for anyone living in NYC (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan) whether you work in NYC or not.

If you own property, of course you would pay real estate taxes, which is different from the local personal income tax.
